Other than hanging the American flag high, having huge grill outs where you eat copious amounts of burgers and hotdogs, going to parades, and being covered in patriarchal face paint for the day, the main tradition of 4th of July is indeed the fireworks displays that take place across the entire country.
We’re here to tell you where you can go, plus tips on how to get the best view for all of them this Independence Day!
Let’s start with the biggest display in the country, Macys’, using 3,000 effects in a 25-minute celebration that’s viewed live by a whopping 3 million people every year. This year is by no means going to be any less spectacular, as the pyrotechnics will be launched from seven different barges along the East River between East 23rd and East 40th Streets, with pre-show performers including Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton!
Where to watch: Sit yourself and you friends down anywhere with open views of the East River: In Manhattan, the South Street Seaport or along FDR Drive. In Brooklyn, Domino Park, Grand Ferry Park or the East River State Park in Williamsburg, and in Queens, along the waterfront in Long Island City.
